Portuguese winger Nani made a goalscoring debut for new club Manchester United as the Premiership champions continued their impressive pre-season tour by hammering Chinese side Shenzhen.

Nani looked bright throughout, linking up well with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs in the United frontline, before being withdrawn along with Ronaldo on the hour mark.

Rooney and Giggs were the prominent United players in the first half, each setting each other up to score as United unlocked the Chinese defence with ease. Rooney cut the ball back for Giggs to tap into an empty net for United’s opener, before the Welshman returned the favour, finding Rooney on the edge of the box for the 21-year-old to execute a superb chip to make it 2-0.

Giggs was involved as Nani made it three, with the former Sporting man receiving a layoff 20 metres from goal and driving a low shot into the bottom corner, followed by his traditional back-flip celebration.

Ronaldo cracked the crossbar with a thunderous free-kick from all of 30 metres, but United would have to wait until the second half to continue the scoring when Ronaldo cut the ball back to O’Shea from the left wing and the Irish international side-footed home.

Perhaps the most exciting goal for the United fans arrived ten minutes into the second half, as Nani, Ronaldo and Rooney combined to score with a rapid counter-attack. Nani broke down the middle and released the ball to his right to find Rooney, who crossed to the back post for Ronaldo to slide the ball in for United’s fifth.

A host of substitutions followed, as both Ronaldo and Nani were withdrawn. One of the replacements, Chris Eagles, hit a superb sixth goal from 25 metres, bringing a spectacular end to a very comfortable evening for Alex Ferguson’s men.
