The Manchester United boss has said the performances of summer signing Nani have been exceptional so far and he has settled in well.

Ferrguson said:

“From what we have seen of him so far there are some thing that you pick up after you have bought a player and that is he is quicker than I thought. He is very, very quick.

“He is also a marvellous crosser of the ball. He is absolutely superb with either foot at crossing a ball. There is great potential because he is only 20.

After being told to expect a season on the bench, Nani has had a good run-out so far.

He has so far played 284 minutes over the first 4 premiership games scoring a wonder goal from 20 yards.

His luck has come because of the injury to Wayne Rooney and suspension of Ronaldo - United’s 2 key players.

Nani scored his first goal for Manchester United to hand the champions a precious first win of the season.

After Robbie Keane hit the bar for Spurs in the first minute United dominated, with Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes going close to an opener.

The visitors held firm, though, and had appeals for a penalty turned down after Wes Brown’s apparent handball.

Nani compounded their misery when he fired in the winner from 25 yards.

Nani scored his second goal for Manchester United in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Guangzhou Pharmaceutical.

Last night’s effort was a brilliant chip to the far post and having heeded Sir Alex Ferguson’s advice to cut out the elaborate back-flip goal celebrations, Nani is clearly a quick learner.

And provided he soaks up a few lessons over the next fortnight, the 19-year-old could be an influential figure in United’s pursuit of glory this term.

Portuguese winger Nani made a goalscoring debut for new club Manchester United as the Premiership champions continued their impressive pre-season tour by hammering Chinese side Shenzhen.

Nani looked bright throughout, linking up well with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs in the United frontline, before being withdrawn along with Ronaldo on the hour mark.

Rooney and Giggs were the prominent United players in the first half, each setting each other up to score as United unlocked the Chinese defence with ease. Rooney cut the ball back for Giggs to tap into an empty net for United’s opener, before the Welshman returned the favour, finding Rooney on the edge of the box for the 21-year-old to execute a superb chip to make it 2-0.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says new signing Nani is a different player to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Nani’s journey to Old Trafford has taken place a year ahead of schedule, with Ferguson forced to move quickly for the Portugal Under-21 star who, like Cristiano Ronaldo, developed a big reputation at Sporting Lisbon.

“We have been monitoring Nani for almost as long as Cristiano,” said Ferguson.

“In a perfect world, he would have stayed in Portugal for another year but circumstances forced us into action.

“He is different to Cristiano in that he can play on both sides of the pitch but also in the middle. He is quick, has a terrific engine and I know we are getting a very talented, flexible player.”
